What types of businesses do you work with as a food photographer?
I work with restaurants, cafés, bakeries, bars, chefs, food bloggers, culinary brands, publishing companies, … looking for professional food photography and visual content for their communication supports.
Where are you based?
I am based in Northern Virginia and work with clients across Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland.
Do you travel for photoshoots?
Yes. I regularly travel throughout the DC area, including Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Washington DC and surrounding areas. Travel outside the DMV area may be available upon request.
What are licensing fees and why do I have to pay for them?
When you hire a food photographer, you are paying for the creation of the images, but this does not make you the owner of the photographs.
The photographs themselves remain the intellectual property and copyright of the photographer. In addition to the photo shoot itself, clients also pay for the right to use the images for their business — this is called licensing. This is standard practice in commercial photography.
Because the images are created for commercial use (marketing, advertising, social media, websites, packaging, etc.), a licensing agreement determines how the photos can be used, where they can be used, and for how long.
Licensing fees are based on factors such as:
- where the images will be used
- how long they will be used
- whether the usage is digital, print, or advertising
- the size and reach of the campaign
- exclusivity requirements
For example, photos used on a local restaurant’s Instagram account will not require the same licensing as images used for a national advertising campaign, magazine publication, or product packaging.
All licensing terms are discussed in advance, clearly outlined in your quote, and included in your contract so everything is fully transparent before the shoot.
What can the photos be used for?
Your images can be used across all your marketing and communication needs, including:
- social media
- websites
- menus
- delivery apps
- advertising campaigns
- press features
- email marketing
- print materials
Licensing details are always discussed prior to the shoot, clearly outlined in your quote, and included in a written contract.
Do you offer restaurant branding photography?
Yes. In addition to food photography, I create branding images that capture the atmosphere of your business, your team, cocktails, interiors and behind-the-scenes moments.
How should we prepare for a food photoshoot?
Before the shoot, we will discuss:
- your brand identity
- shot list
- menu items
- props and styling
- lighting conditions
- intended use of the images
I also provide preparation tips to help the shoot run smoothly.
Do you provide food styling?
Light food styling and art direction are included in most sessions.
How long does a restaurant photoshoot take?
Most restaurant sessions last between 2 and 6 hours depending on the number of dishes, locations and content needed.
How quickly will we receive the images?
Delivery times vary depending on the project, but most galleries are delivered within 1 to 2 weeks.
Do you work with small businesses?
Absolutely. I love working with independent restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops and small culinary businesses across Northern Virginia and Washington DC.
Can you create content for Instagram and social media?
